This unusual Disney movie went through a lot of trouble and changes before becoming what it is now. Originally called "Kingdom of the sun", the story was supposed to be a "Prince and the Pauper" remake, but plans changed and the movie became a comedy.
The story is set in an imaginary South American kingdom where the bratty and selfish teenager Kuzco is the emperor. He wants to build Kuzcotopia, a great mansion for himself on the hill where the peasant Pacha has lived with his family for years. Kuzco's advisor Yzma is jealous of him and wants to take over the kingdom. She and her henchman Kronk plan to kill him, but Kronk only manages to turn Kuzco into a llama. It's up to Pacha to help the snotty emperor back to his throne and to being human again, as long as Kuzco promises to spare his village.
The movie has a completely original story and characters and it's one of Disney's funniest. There are no songs, no cute sidekicks (if you don't include Bucky the squirrel), no love story - just a buddy tale and lots of laughs.

Main Characters:
Kuzco. VA David Spade.
Emperor Kuzco is a selfish brat who only thinks of himself and is used to getting everything he wants with the snap of his fingers. When he's turned into a llama, he is forced to learn humbleness and the value of true friends.
Pacha. VA John Goodman.
Pacha is a friendly and good-hearted peasant who has to persuade Kuzco to spare his village and build his Kuzcotopia someplace else.
Yzma. VA Eartha Kitt.
Yzma is Kuzco's advisor whom he fires. She's left with a thirst for vengeance and she wants to take over Kuzco's throne.
Kronk. VA Patrick Warburton.
Kronk is Yzma's not-so-bright partner in crime and her current boyfriend (she picks a new one every ten years or so). He is not really bad deep down, he often has inner struggles with his Devil and Angel about doing the right thing. He also loves to cook and knows how to speak with squirrels.
Chicha. VA Wendie Malick.
Chicha is Pacha's wife, mother of Tipo and Chaca and pregnant for a third child. She is clever, warm and she's no-one to mess with.
Tipo and Chaca. VAs Eli Russell Linnetz (Tipo) and Kellyann Kels (Chaca).
Tipo and Chaca are Pacha's and Chicha's two hyper and playful children.
Other Characters:
Bucky the squirrel. VA Bob Bergen.
This almost sickeningly cute little squirrel appears sweet and cuddly but can be sneaky and vengeful when he wants to.
Theme Song Guy. VA Tom Jones.
Kuzco's very own Theme Song Guy.
The Old Man. VA John Fiedler.
An old man that Kuzco kicked out of his palace after he "threw off his groove".

Favorite scenes:
1. Nearly the entire restaurant scene, especially when Kronk becomes the cook and Yzma and Kuzco keep missing each other when they're really close to each other. XD
2. When Pacha and Kuzco are sitting at the pond and neither of them know what to say.
3. Nearly everything towards the end, starting from when Kuzco and Pacha make it to Yzma's lab, especially when Kronk's devil and angel appear again and Yzma thinks he's talking to himself.

When Pacha asks Kuzco if he's tired of being a llama, and Kuzco wails, "Yyyyeeeess!" The part leading up to it is not only cute, but of course is a turning point for Kuzco, and I just love the way Kuzco breaks down and wails his misery.~ Kat
Favorite quotes:
Yzma: "Alright, I've had enough of this! Tell us where the talking llama is and we'll burn your house to the ground!"
Kronk: "Uh, don't you mean 'or'?"
Yzma: "Grr! Tell us where the talking llama is OR we'll burn your house to the ground!"Pacha: "Uh-oh."
Kuzco: "Let me guess. We're about to go over a huge waterfall."
Pacha: "Yep."
Kuzco: "Sharp rocks at the bottom?"
Pacha: "Most likely."
Kuzco: "....Bring it on."Kronk's Shoulder Devil: " 'Ey, you're not backing down now, are ya, big guy?" *appears*
Kronk: "Uhh, where's the other guy?"
Kronk's Shoulder Angel: *appears, sitting in a tiny barber salon chair* "Sorry I'm late! So, what'd I miss?"Palace Guard: "For the last time, we did not order a giant trampoline!!"
Kronk's Shoulder Devil: "Listen up, big guy, I got three good reasons why you should just walk away. Number one: look at that guy! He's got that sissy, stringy music thing."
Kronk's Shoulder Angel: "We've been through this. It's a harp, and you know it."
Devil: "Oh, right. That's a harp - and that's a dress."
Angel: "Robe!"
Devil: "Reason number two: look what I can do." *stands on his hands*
Kronk: "What? What does that have to do with anyth--"
Angel: "No, no...he's got a point."Yzma: "Looking for this?"
Kuzco: "No, it can't be! How did you get back here before us?"
Yzma: "Uh--" *pauses* "How did we, Kronk?"
Kronk: "Well, you got me. By all accounts, it doesn't make sense."Kuzco: "Okay, I admit it, maybe I wasn't as nice as I should've been. But Yzma, do you really want to kill me?"
Yzma: "Just think of it as: you're being let go, that your life's going in a different direction, that your body's part of a permanent outplacement..."
Kronk: "Hey, that's kinda like what he said to you when you got fired!"
Yzma: "I know. It's called a cruel irony, like my dependence on you."~ JessKat
"Boom, Baby!"~ Anon

Trivia:
A llama theme is carried out through the entire movie, in several ways. An obvious example is the llama carved on the door of Pacha's home, but there are others. When Uzma dumps her poisoned drink into the cactus, it turns into a llama-shaped cactus. In the diner, the salt and pepper shakers are llamas (a set I'd love to have!). And when Chicha hits Kuzco with a frying pan, llama-shaped "stars" float around Kuzco's head.
