The Swan Princess

The Swan Princess is a romantic movie with fun, love, good VS evil and everything else that makes a fairytale.

The story starts when Princess Odette and Prince Derek are just children – and their parents decide to betroth them to unite two kingdoms. The trouble is, Odette and Derek don't want to be married; in fact, they practically despise each other…until they become young adults. Then the plot begins to unfold, including Odette's brush-off of Derek's proposal, and the evil Rothbart's plans to kill Odette's father and take over the kingdom! Derek must prove his love for Odette isn't just superficial and break the spell Rothbart puts on her.

The story is a bit predictable, as any fairytale is, but it's still a beautiful movie with pretty animation. The songs are a little silly at times, but that's pretty predictable too. It's recommended if you love romance stories.

Main Characters:

Princess Odette - VAs: Michelle Nicastro (adult), Adrian Zahiri (young)

Princess Odette is The Swan Princess. Placed under a spell by the evil Rothbart, she must endure being a swan by day, and when the moon rises, she becomes her human self at night. Only Derek's love can break the spell.

Prince Derek is Princess Odette's love (though they didn't always love each other!). He is an excellent archer and must find Princess Odette after she disappears and break the spell by confessing his love to her.

King William is Odette's father. He and Derek's mother are good friends and they meet every summer to nurture their children's rocky relationship. He also banished Rothbart from his kingdom after discovering Rothbart's plans to get rid of him - thus making a mortal enemy.

Queen Uberta is Derek's mother. She wants her son to marry Princess Odette and thus unite two important kingdoms. But when Princess Odette turns Derek's proposal down and then disappears, Uberta shifts her focus into finding any suitable wife for Derek no matter what.

The evil Rothbart is the villian of The Swan Princess. After his plans to take over William's kingdom were foiled once, he swears revenge and later kidnaps Odette and places her under a spell that transforms her into a swan by day and a human by night. He desires her hand in marriage, which will make him the rightful king of her father's kingdom.

Lord Rogers is one of Queen Uberta's most trusted court members. He is also a close friend to Derek and tries to give the young prince good advice.

Bromley is Derek's best friend. As children they were playmates and did their best to exclude Princess Odette, and as adults they both practice archery together (although Derek is by far the better skilled of the two). Bromley is a bit of a loaf, but he does try to help Derek find the great beast that kidnapped Odette.

Jean-Bob is a frog that lives in the enchanted lake where Odette lives as a swan. He befriends her quickly, mostly because he wants her to kiss him and turn him back into a prince.

Speed is a turtle that lives in the enchanted lake where Odette lives as a swan. He too is one of her new friends, and he's more relaxed and easy-going than Jean-Bob is.

Lt. Puffin is a bird that was injured by an arrow. He falls to the enchanted lake and Odette saves his life. After that, Puffin swears to help her escape Rothbart's evil spell in return for her saving him.
