Pocahontas

Pocahontas is the first Disney movie to be based on a true story. Pocahontas was a native American princess who managed to bond two different groups together - the Indians and the English settlers.

The story takes place in 1607. John Smith, an English settler, sets out to explore the 'New World' with the Virginia Company. The greedy governor Ratcliffe is only interested in finding mounds of gold while John is looking for something he hasn't found yet, a place to call home. In the new world he meets Pocahontas, a beautiful and spirited native American princess. Pocahontas and John Smith fall in love and together they manage to stop a war between the Indians and the settlers.

The beautiful backgrounds, colors, animation and songs make Pocahontas look like a grand and dramatic painting. The movie teaches that skin color doesn't matter when true love in involved and that everyody should respect each other and live in harmony with nature.
