This anime series tells the story of a modern-day school girl named Kagome Higurashi who is on a quest to find the shards of a mysterious jewel known as the Shikon no Tama. The twist is that she has to do so in the feudal era of Japan with the reluctant help of a half-demon named Inu-Yasha.
The Shikon no Tama is a very powerful jewel that can be used only for evil, and therefore must be carefully guarded against demons and others who wish to use its power. Shortly after Kagome's appearance in the past, the jewel is shattered into dozens of pieces and it isn't long before every demon in the land is collecting these shards. Inu-Yasha also wants to use the power of the jewel to become a full-blooded demon, but only Kagome is able to see the shards, so the two are forced to search together. Before long they are joined in their quest by three others with personal vendettas against the demons. The five work together as a very efficient demon-exterminating team and slowly rebuild the jewel. However, each person is battling personal demons from their pasts as well.
With an animation studio like Sunrise (Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne) behind it, Inu-Yasha shines in all elements from excellent animation to great storytelling. This is one of the few series where even the filler episodes are interesting! However, the best part of the story is watching the reluctant relationship between Kagome and Inu-Yasha slowly change to love. It's another of my personal favorites.

Main Characters:
Inu-Yasha VA: Yamaguchi Kappei (English: Richard Ian Cox)
Inu-Yasha is a hanyou (half-demon, half-human) who wants to use the Shikon no Tama to become a full demon. Despite his tough attitude, he inherited a human heart and a soft side he does his best to keep carefully hidden.
Kagome Higurashi VA: Satsuki Yukino (English: Moneca Stori)
Kagome is a quick thinking modern day school girl who finds herself whisked away to feudal Japan via an ancient well on her family's property. She handles the responsibility of hunting down the shards extremely well while also managing to keep up with her modern life.
Shippo VA: Watanabe Kumiko (English: Jillian Michaels)
Shippo is a young fox spirit who was left orphaned after his father was killed by a Shikon enhanced demon. Typical of his kind, Shippo's powers are illusory. Having no where else to go, he chooses to tag alone with Inu-Yasha and Kagome, who he views as a big sister.
Miroku VA: Tsujitani Kouji (English: Kirby Morrow)
Miroku is a wandering monk of very questionable scruples. Despite his cheerful attitude, Miroku carries the curse of his family: an air void in his right hand that will absorb all but the most powerful creatures when he removes the prayer beads from his wrist. If he cannot break the curse, one day the air void will consume him as well.
Sango VA: Houko Kuwashima (English: Kelly Sheridan)
Sango is the final addition to the demon hunting team. Using a massive boomerang as a deadly weapon, Sango was a professional demon exterminator before her family and entire village were massacred. She joins the group initally only to get revenge, but soon comes to trust them.

Kaede VA: Hisako Kyoda (English: Pam Hyatt)
Kaede is Kikyo's little sister who has grown into a very powerful priestess in her own right by the time Kagome shows up. She serves as the group's spiritual guide and provides them with a homebase in her village.
Sesshoumaru VA: Ken Narita (English: David Kaye)
Sesshoumaru is Inu-Yasha's half brother and a very powerful demon who despises his younger brother's "human taint". Convinced that he alone should have rights to the mighty sword left to Inu-Yasha by their father, he continuously plots a way to destroy his little brother.
Naraku VA: Morikawa Tomoyuki
Naraku is a very powerful evil being who is responsible for all the suffering the members of the demon-hunting group have had to bear. He wishes to corrupt the power of the Shikon no Tama to ultimate evil by using magic and tricks to make people who are very close turn against each other.
Kohaku VA: ?
Kohaku is Sango's beloved little brother who was supposedly killed the night her family was tricked by Naraku. However, he was kept alive by a Shikon shard and is now an unwilling pawn for his evil master.
Rin VA: ?
Rin is a little girl who was left an orphan when the wolf demons attacked her village. Later, she too was killed by the same wolves, but was brought back to life by Sesshoumaru. Now, she follows him wherever he goes with Jaken as her reluctant babysitter.
