CatDog

CatDog, created by Peter Hannan, is the first cartoon about two natural enemies, a feline and a canine, forced to live under the same roof and constantly together. Sound like it's been done before? Well not quite like this; the cat and dog are twin brothers that share the same body. No one is totally sure if they were born this way or if they were connected by mad scientists, or whom their real birth parents are.

The cat brother and dog brother are simply named Cat and Dog, because they are perfect stereotypical examples of felines and canines. Viewers with cats, and dogs, will more than likely notice many qualities in their own pets just like CatDog.

CatDog live in a house, which is shaped half fish and half bone on the outskirts of Nearburg. The inside is filled with many connected feline and canine qualities. For example, they have a lawn chair that is shaped half fish and bone. In the bathroom they have a connected litter box and fire hydrant.

This cartoon not only makes the viewers laugh but also think by showing what it's like to be the only CatDog in town. Since Cat and Dog are so different it's not always easy to get along. But they are brothers and love each other dearly and would lay down their own life for one another. No matter how mistreated, or trouble dealing with everyday life, they still keep their good-natured spirits. Many relationship lessons are demonstrated through CatDog and the other characters about getting along together. The show is packed full of pop culture and social satire humor. The makers of the show were not hesitant in shedding a little honesty about human nature, with the power hungry authority, the bullies, and more.

CatDog’s placed in many different scenarios, like time periods, various occupations and costumes. The attention to detail in this cartoon is impeccable. Every time I watch an episode I seem to notice something I didn't before. The creative talent behind this show is amazing. Love CatDog or hate it, this cartoon still has many reasons to be respected as an animated masterpiece in cartoon history.

Characters:

Cat – voice Jim Cummings
Cat is the true underdog of CatDog always getting the shorter end of the stick than his brother, because he's more an independent thinker than Dog. Cat is the more emotional side; part of what is fun to watch about Cat is his temper and sarcastic reactions towards his brother and life in general. Since he's so uptight he's easily picked on. Cat enjoys opera, classical polka, white fish chub, Mr. Loofah, and his big yarn ball.

Dog – voice Tom Kenny
Dog is always happy and naive one of the 2. He loves chasing garbage and meat trucks and dragging Cat reluctantly along for the ride. He's extremely lovable and everyone seems to like Dog best on the show. Dog has a very overactive imagination so he's easy to scare with brainwashing tactics or simply a scary "Toothpickhead" movie. Dog loves his bone cellar, Farburg Burger Bones, "Little Cat", and his moldy beef subs.

Winslow – voice Carlos Alazraqui
Winslow resides in CatDog's house in the hole in the wall. He's a little blue guy that looks like a mouse but acts more like a rat. Winslow has a Brooklyn-ease Mafia type of accent. He is very sneaky at times, and makes wise cracks a lot especially towards CatDog. Winslow still has a good heart, he’s jealous of how close CatDog is, and uses his sarcasm to mask his pain.

Rancid Rabbit – voice Billy West
Rancid Rabbit represents all the stereotypical authority figure careers that abuses power to the fullest degree. He's everyone's nightmare doctor, police officer, politician, boss, and more!

The Greaser Gang
Their Motto: "No cats! No 2 headed freaks! Dogs only!" They're a typical gang that acts no different than school playground bullies, picking on anyone different than them. They pick on CatDog (mostly Cat), and their only reason: "CatDog's a 2-headed FREAK!"

Cliff Feltbottom- voice Tom Kenny
The leader of the Greaser gang, he is a bulldog and extremely tough. Yet has a softer hidden side too, such as an appreciation for ballet and cashmere.

Shriek Dubois- voice Maria Bamford
Shriek’s a feisty female French poodle of the gang with a few secrets. Shriek hates acting proper the way her rich parents wish, so she left that life and found a happy home with the rough and tough Greasers. She also has a very strong crush on Dog, something very forbidden in Greaser rules, because Dog is connected to *GASP* A CAT!

Lube (Ignatius)- Carlos Alazraqui
Lube is a hound dog and the very slow member of the group. Listen for his many out of the blue comments that are just so funny because they are so unexpected. Lube is a mechanic and got his nickname from having greasy hair. Lube is the kindest Greaser, he's very good with kids and when Cliff and Shriek aren't around he doesn't seem to bother anyone not even CatDog.

Eddie (the Pulverizer) – voice Dwight Shultz
The wannabe Greaser. Eddie is a little scruffy squirrel that will stop at nothing to be a Greaser. Sadly for Eddie, they won't take him because he isn't a dog, and they in general don't like the poor little guy. However a few times he did get to briefly replace a Greaser when they left the group for a short period of time.

Mr. Sunshine- voice Billy West
The opposite of his name. Eeyore would just love this Ben Stein-like gloomy character with his monotone speaking. Despite his gloom, he still is a smile to watch with his many different comments and mannerisms.

Randolph Grant – voice Billy West
The celebrity of Nearburg, he's a posh and trendy cat that agrees that it would be terribly exciting to be the cat half with Dog, simply cause he’ll try anything once. His biggest catch phrase is: “It's crazy and wild and I love it!” Randolph's character is sort of based off a cross between Cary Grant, and Robin Leach.

Mervis and Dunglap- voice John Kassir
Mervis and Dunglap are best friends, but seem to fight WORSE than CatDog even though they are not connected!
