Blood: The Last Vampire is a horror anime movie concentrating on the vampire hunter Saya and one day in her life. The movie is very gory and adult at times, if short, so it's not suitable for all ages and those with a weak stomach.
Japan, 1966. Saya is part of a secret team destroying vampires. She is sent undercover as a student at the American air base in Yokota, just before Halloween. She discovers that two of her classmates are vampires in disguise just as they are preparing to attack the school nurse; meanwhile, her colleagues have discovered another vampire acting as a bartender in the local red-light district. A spectacular battle ensues.
The movie may seem very confusing in plot; not much is explained. There isn't much character development either, which may seem like a downer, but the gorgeous animation and intense action are enough to keep the viewer hooked to the end. What's unusual about the movie is that the characters speak both Japanese and English; there's no dubbed version at all. The movie is from the makers of Ghost In The Shell, which in itself promises quality, and according to the makers they hope to continue the story of Saya in the future.

Favorite scenes:
The slow-motion scene at the Halloween party. It's just a great piece of cinematography and a thrilling scene.
The scene near the end when Saya and the dying vampire stand next to each other and Saya lets some blood drip from her wounded hand into the creature's mouth. The scene shows that she has a special bond with these demons, that even though she lives to kill them, she feels kinship to them.

Comments:
One of the fascinating aspects of Blood: The Last Vampire is the artwork. Each scene is carefully planned: the shadows and highlights, the placing of the characters, symbolism, small details.....Each picture is a piece of art in itself.
