This animated movie combines historical aspects with mystery and romance as it explores the story of the last Romanov princess of Russia, Anastasia.
Anastasia is the story of a young girl named Anya. For ten years, Anya has been an orphan with no memory of her past, except for a necklace she's always had that reads "Together in Paris". Dreaming of a home, love, and a family far away, Anya takes a chance and runs away to St. Petersburg in hopes of traveling to Paris. She meets up with a young man named Dimitri, a conartist who wants to find an Anastasia look-alike in order to win a 10 million ruble reward from the Dowager Empress Marie. Along with his aging partner, Vladimir, Dimitri tells Anya that she might possibly be royalty, and the trio set out of Paris to discover their futures.
Though it doesn't follow history exactly, this is a heart-warming movie with a bit of romance and excitement. The animation is beautiful and well done, and the characters are all unique.

Main Characters:
Anya. VA Meg Ryan (singing, Lisa Calloway).
Anya is the main character in this movie. She's a spit-fire young woman who dreams of finding her family, but in the end, she discovers it in a place she wasn't expecting.
Dimitri. VA John Cusack (singing, Jonathan Dokuchitz).
Dimitri is a young conartist who works in the Russian Black Market. After hearing about a huge reward to anyone who can find the last Romanov princess, Dimitri sets out to find a perfect copy of the girl, and ends up finding Anya.
Other Characters:
Vladimir. VA Kelsey Grammer .
Vlad is the father-figure of the trio - an ex-aristocrat who ended up in the Black Market as Dimitri's partner. He is the first to see the love between Anya and Dimitri, and tries to nurture it.
Sophie. VA Bernadette Peters.
Sophie lives in Paris, and is the Dowager Empress's first cousin. She loves the City of Lights and when she's not out on the town, she's helping Marie search for Anastasia.
Dowager Empress Marie. VA Angela Lansbury.
The Dowager Empress Marie is Anastasia's grandmother. She escaped from the Romanov palace during the outbreak of the Revolution, but lost her beloved grandchild during the chaos. Now, ten years later, she's offering a ten million ruble reward if anyone can return Anstasia to her.
Rasputin. VA Christopher Loyd.
Rasputin was once an advisor to the royal Romanov family, but he betrayed them. He placed a curse over them and had them all killed; however, one little girl, Anastasia, escaped - thus causing Rasputin to be thrown into limbo for a while. However, he still wishes to kill her and complete his curse.
Bartok. VA Hank Azaria.
This albino bat is Rasputin's sidekick. He's not too crazy about the idea of killing the last princess.
Pooka is a little puppy who finds Anya and leads her down the path to St. Petersburg so she can began her journey to Paris. He's very loyal to his mistress, and loves playing around.
