Author's note: If you've seen the Lilo and Stitch movie you'll understand with this title means. If not...well I'm sure you'll figure it out. Also I refer to Captain Gantu's species as Shorca, a combination of the words shark and orca since he looks like a mixture of both. ^_~"

It had been a stormy weekend in Hawaii, the rains had covered the islands and everything on them with a slick wet sheen. Lightning ripped across the smokey gray sky like the claws of some giant beast as the rolling thunder harloded the storm's growing strength. It was a weekend for staying indoors and watching movies in to mention driving the keeper of the home crazy.
Yes, the craziness at the Peleki residence rarely ceased.
"Keep it down in there!" Nani called from the kitchen as she washed up some dishes with Pleakly doing the drying and putting them away in the cupboards. It had been monster movies coming from the television all day, Lilo and Stitch roaring at the tops of their voices as they terrorized imaginary cities and helpless citizens. On occasion Jumba could be heard yell at them to either sit and watch the movie or he'd mail them both to Turo last class, or use them both in scientific experiments of some sort.

"Oh I'll be glad when this storm is over.'' muttered Nani as she handed the one-eyed alien a coffee mug and emptied the sink.

"Yeah,'' Pleakly agreed with a heavy sigh. '' locked in a house all weekend with those two can drive any civilized alien to the brink of insanity.''

Nani smiled and nodded to him as she when to the refrigerator to find something to make for dinner. The commotion in the living room had died down a bit as Stitch was sitting on the couch with Jumba watching his favorite parts of the giant monster movie with avid interest. Laughing and clapping all the while, Lilo on the other hand having tired of being a giant monster all morning decided to just go to her room for a little quite time. Upon closing the door Lilo found her homemade doll Scrump, cradling the pale green toy she herself made Lilo stared out the window and let out a sad sigh. Heavy rain pelted the foggy glass as the great tall palms bent and swayed in the high winds, leaves whipping about. She wanted to go swimming today, surfing or maybe on a nice picnic with Stitch but not with all this rain. Lilo sighed again.

"Rain, rain go away come again on a school day.'' she sang to herself as she watched more of the wet stuff coming down. This was boring. Lilo was just about to go downstairs and watch more of the giant monster movie with Stitch when something outside caught her eye. It was just down the beach a little ways, a large lump of gray smooth and shiny jutted above the trees. Finally something interesting the young girl hoped. Quickly going to her closet Lilo pulled out her yellow rain coat and hat decorated with a pink flower on the brim and put them on, grabbing her trusty pal Scrump the curious child quietly scooted down stairs. Careful not to alert her big sister who was busily attending the hot food cooking on the stove, Lilo went to the hall closet and put on her red boots and with her doll tucked safely under her coat to keep her from getting wet. Lilo slowly turned the door knob and slipped out into the storm only to reach back in through the door way for she all most forgot her umbrella. Luckily the rains had eased off a little to a light shower and the winds to a slight breeze, umbrella perched over her head Lilo walked down the sandy beach. The sands turned dark from the heavy rain fall made her footprints more visible as she walked onward, a few stray raindrops hit her face and dribbled down her cheeks while the gentle breeze played in her long black hair. Lilo knew that Nani would probably give her a scolding for going out in bad weather like this and she knew she really should go back, but not until she saw what that gray lump she saw poking up above the trees was. A sudden ear splitting crack of thunder over head startled Lilo in to a mad dash foreword, she ran and ran down the beach until she smacked into what felt like a brick wall and was knocked down. Moaning Lilo picked herself, dusted of the sand and put her hat back on, wondering what in the world she had run into and as she rubbed the pain induced tears from her eyes she saw it. Both of them. Two massive gray elephant like feet, the child's eye widened as she backed up, she recognized them anywhere. Looking up, waaaaaay up that's when she saw him. A massive muscular black uniformed body, large broad arms and shoulders, a shark like head and face with those cold piercing blue eyes. Captain Gantu.

Lilo screamed and turned to run away dropping her umbrella and Scrump, whirling around she stooped to get them when she relised something Gantu wasn't trying to get her or even noticed that she was there. He was just sitting there looking out over the ocean with the rains streaming down his face and arms before dripping off his elbows, looking rather sad. Confused, but still keeping her distance Lilo looked up at him hugging Scrump tightly in her small arms just as a cool gust of wind kicked up. Holding her rain hat to keep it from blowing away, Lilo saw the once proud captain shiver. He was cold and very wet, she could tell by the way rain water dripped down his pant legs. He looked so miserable that the young girl couldn't help but feel a little sorry for him. Though this was the same alien who tried to take her best friend Stitch away, not to mention ruthlessly attacking him. Lilo frowned, so what was he doing sitting here anyway? It was so weird. Only after a long period of silence did she actually speak to him though it took a lot of courage.

"You shouldn't sit here in the rain all day, you'll catch a cold.'' she said trying not to sound more scared than she was.

No one heard the child except the rain and the still silent 20 foot creature that sat before her, who slowly opened his eyes and slowly turning his massive head looked straight down at her. Lilo backed up a little as Gantu stared down at her with those pearly blue orbs, the corners of his stern mouth moving ever so slightly. Lilo stood like a statue, not knowing what to do next. Those cold blue eyes were locked on her as she could see her own reflection looking back at her in them, as sad and pathetic as he looked sitting under that gray Hawaiian sky he still carried an aura of fear about him that wasn't even dampened by the cold rain falling on him.
After what seemed like an eternity, the great gray shorca returned his gaze to the sea and spoke not a word as another bolt of lightning flashed in the distance.

"Dinner everyone!!" Nani called with a clap of her hands, summoning the house's residents to the kitchen table where their still steaming hot dinners awaited them. Stitch was the first to scuttle in and leapt up onto his chair, right and ready to devour his meal but Nani firmly told him to wait for the others. Stitch growled but complied. Pleakly and Jumba came in and took their places at the dinner table just as a knock at the front door was heard.

"Now who could that be?" Nani wondered as she removed her apron and went to answer the knockings. Turing the knob Nani opened the door to see David standing there with a big smile on his face, the rains leaving a silk sheen on his jet black hair.

"Oh hi David,'' said Nain happily as David often joined them for dinner, '' I just go dinner ready. Come on in.''

David smiled and thanked her as he hung up his rain coat and walked with her into the dinning room where everyone was waiting. Nani showed David to his seat and was about to sit down when she noticed someone was missing. Lilo chair was vacant, usually she was late coming for dinner but not this late.

"Stitch,'' Nani asked looking at him with a concerned look on her face " where's Lilo?"

Stitch held and tapped his nose as he thought for a moment before telling her that he had last seen his friend going up to her bedroom while he and Jumba watched the last of the monster movie.

"She still could be there.'' said the furry blue creature with a twitch of his large bat like ears.

Nani agreed and went up to Lilo's bedroom, calling as she went for her little sister to come down for dinner and that it was getting ice cold. Pushing the door open Nani saw that the bedroom was empty and Scrump Lilo's little homemade doll that normally sat on her bed was missing.

"Lilo's not in her room!!" Nani exclaimed as she rushed down stairs and into the kitchen where her friends waited.

At that instant everyone got up and looked everywhere a five year old could possibly be hiding, in the closets, under beds and even in the dryer. (Lilo's fave spot) Calling her name as they searched, Stitch sniffed the air feverishly trying to pick up her scent and found it as he walked towards the back door and was shocked to find it half open and swaying in the breeze. Lilo's rain coat, hat, boots and umbrella were gone out of the closet. The blue alien begin jumping up and down, ears flapping as he called out in his native tongue alerting everyone as to what he found, Nani was the first on the scene with David, Pleakly and Jumba in tow.

"Oh no.'' Nani said as she saw Stitch pointing at the door as it creaked back and forth on it's hinges, quickly Nani grabbed her rain coat and dashed outside following the trail of Lilo's small footprints that were slowing filling up with sand. Her friends following close behind Nani lead the way as she ran down the beach, her long black hair flying behind her, forearm shielding her eyes as the rains had started once again. The winds were still a silent breeze as the group rounded a corner and spotted Lilo standing a few yards away, her back to them with her umbrella over her shoulder and her doll Scrump hanging from her small hand. Nani when she spotted the rain soaked giant, Captain Gantu, she immediately panicked and ran to rescue her younger sibling.

"Lilo!! Get away from him...ah!!!" she yelped as a sudden gale force wind whipped up out of no where, pretty near blowing them all off their feet. The wind howled all around them as lightning tore through the deep gray sky, thunder rumbled and boomed as Lilo held her hat and umbrella that the wind had blown inside out. Looking up she saw Gantu was ever still, unfazed or moved by the storm that raged over his head, eyes cold, blue, fearless and hard remained locked on the violent, foaming seas. Great palm trees moaned and swayed so weaken as they were by the pounding of the wind and rain began to crack and snap at their trunks, huge 600 lb plus pounds of timber toppled over as Lilo looked up to see the leafy tops coming straight at her. A scream escaped Lilo's mouth, she never saw it coming as 5 of the tall heavy plants crashed down into a twisted pile on the spot in which she stood.
Nani's instant cries of horror and anguish were drowned out by the wind as she ran to the fallen palms, her hot tears streamed down her cheeks as she tried in vain to remove them from atop her sister pulling and clawing at the wet rough bark made her hands red and raw. Stitch was on the situation with fierce determination and hoping against all hope that his best friend was still alive, the rain mixing with the salty streams that flowed from his eyes as he lifted and threw off one of the trees with ease. David, Jumba and Pleakly as numbed as they were by the terrible accident rushed in to help, Nani stepped out of the way to let David and Jumba help Stitch before collapsing to her knees with her face in her hands crying softly as Pleakly comforted her holding her hand as he tried his hardest not to break down as well.
Stitch, David and Jumba removed the third log shaken and heartbroken, excepting to see the crushed body of a sweet, innocent, ever forgiving and understanding little girl laying lifeless amongst the palm leaves when they received a shock, David turned and called to Nani and Pleakly.

"Come quickly, you won't believe this....'' he said sounding oddly cheerful.

Nani, knees weak and still choking back tears came over to where the trio stood, Pleakly holding her hand walked with her to see what their friends had discovered. Nani and Pleakly gasped as they looked amongst the palm logs, there was nothing. Lilo was no where to be found under the wreckage only bits of torn bark and huge green leaves only a slightly wet and dirty Scrump. Nani moaned in relief as she felt faint, David gently held her shoulders to keep her from falling as their alien friends looked about for where Lilo might have gone.

''Look!" said Jumba in his heavy Russian accent as he pointed up at a still quite and motionless Gantu, beams of golden sunlight shone on his giant body as the storm had blown it's self out and was fading into a beautiful sunset.

Everyone looked up at the ex-captain with a kind of confused fascination as he was holding up a softly clenched fist before them all, the sunset's light shimmered like golden fire on his still wet dark gray skin and making his pupiless blue eyes seem to glow like twin stars. Then like a flower blooming in the warmth of a sweet smelling spring, Gantu opened his giant hand very slowly and nothing in all of the world or universe could have prepared any of them for what they saw.
Lilo opened her eyes to find that she wasn't standing on the beach anymore and the last thing she remembered was those palm trees falling towards her until all when black. She looked down and saw the pale cloud gray and huge fingers behind her as she turned and thumb, Lilo almost dropped her umbrella as it dawned on her. She was sitting a good 10 or more feet off the ground in the palm of Captain Gantu's hand, the suddenness of the situation caused her to fall back on her rear. The skin of his hand had a soft rubbery and a rather pleasantly warm feel to it she noticed as she picked herself up and stared at him and he back at her. Gantu had just saved her life and had done so, so gently that not even her umbrella had been crushed by his powerful grip.

The real question was.....why?

Gantu looked at Lilo for only a second more, looked at the tiny life he just snatched from the jaws of cretin death and lowered his hand to the beach below allowing her to carefully climb off and run into the arms of an overjoyed Nani.

"Oh Lilo...'' Nani smiled as she cuddled her little sister with all the love in her heart as Lilo received hugs all round from her happy and grateful "ohana". Nani lifted her eyes to see Gantu standing up, casually brushing the sand off his uniform. The fear she felt just seeing him was swiftly replaced by never ending gratitude for saving the life of her sister, her whole world who was all she had left of the memory of their parents. Nani bravely stepped foreword and looked up into those sky blue eyes that looked back down at her seemingly peering into the deepest radices of her soul.

"Thank you, for saving my sister's life.'' Nani spoke trying to hide the slight tremble in her voice.

Gantu nodded slowly but said not a word as he watched the group turn to go back home, all but one who stayed behind. Stitch.

His family noticed he was not coming with them and turned to see why, they saw Stitch and Gantu standing face to face not a word was exchanged between them as if they were speaking in an ancient language of thought. Seeing his own reflection in the other's eyes the two aliens started to wonder about each other, time seemed to slow around them as everything else vanished. Stitch could have just let him fall, the captain thought, he could have been out of Stitch's life forever but strangely enough the tiny blue creature just didn't see it that way. Gantu turned to leave, his broad shouldered shadow sweeping a crossed the sand and the deep round footprints that marked his passage. Leaving behind these only words.

"Now we're even" he said in his deep male voice.

"What is that supposed to mean?" Pleakly whispered to Jumba who shrugged having not the faintest clue.

Only Stitch knew as he smiled a small smile swearing when Gantu looked over his shoulder at them, returned it. The 20 ft creature walked off down the beach with the sun setting over the Pacific ocean casting it's fiery golden light over the waves, splashing the sky with watercolor pink, reds, oranges that faded into deep navy blue as the soft breath of evening was starting to roll in. Stitch's family started to walk back to the house as he stayed behind, watching his old foe vanish from sight into the Hawaiian landscape as stars like tiny diamonds began to come out twinkling like candles in the velvet sky. Stitch heard Lilo calling him to come inside, he started off for home not before turning over his shoulder ears blowing in the wind with a sparkle in his soft brown eye.

"Thank you...Gantu.'' he said.
