I shifted my weight uneasly from one foot to the other. Why was he staring at me that way?, I asked myself as my mind and
stomach were awash with mixed emotions.
A sudden tugging at my left arm jerked me out of my thoughts. It was Cleft.
''Come on Meela, let's go. Gash says we're not supposed to be talking to those guys.'' he said nervously.
'' Yeah,'' I wisper back '' I think....I think that's a good idea.'' All though deep down I wasn't so sure I wanted to. Cleft
and I turned to go back up the way we came, doing as we did I shot a casual glance over my shoulder. Slash,Rock and Cobra
were already leaving as well, grumbling among themselves as they went. I grinned to myself. Those three were quiet easy to
get rid of as long as one didn't allow oneself to play fall guy to thier moronic comments and just ignored them. Only the
red scarfed Machoke didn't leave right away, but stayed a little longer to watch us leave. I felt the skin on my back and
chest crawl as I looked at him. His broad shoulders and powerfully bulit chest, muscular arms and legs and the three crests
that adorned his head were tall and perfectly shaped. I found my eyes tracing his facial features untill my eyes met with
his. They were like twin pools of liquid fire and they sparkled in the afternoon sun, giving him an almost hypnotic gaze.
I suddenly saw his slitted pupils narrow as a quick smerk crossed his lips sending a pang of shock right through me.
He could tell that I was staring at him! Quickly I turned and ran after Cleft who was very far ahead of me. Snap out of it
Meela! I said as I mentaly slapped myself arcoss the face What are were you thinking, you don't even know him! I ran and ran,
unknowingly running right past Cleft not stopping untill I had reached my home cave.
It was going into the evening as the sun was begining to set in the western moutains sending it's rays of firey gold into
the heavens, splashing the sky with red, orange that gradually fanned out into golden yellow and royal blue. Sitting alone
on my favorite rock I quietly watched the sun set in all it's natural beatuy. Even though I appered to be watching the sun
my mind was far away and lost in thoughts. It was so werid all I could think about was that new Machoke I had met earlyer,
er... Machie yeah that was his name. I didn't even know him that well, sure was strange tho. So why can't I stop thinking about
him and why do I get Butterfrees in my stomach when I do think of him?
'' Uh excuse me?" asked a sudden and very familiar voice, that caused my train of thought to derail and crash.
I let out a gasp of suprise as I whirled around only to come face to face with him. Machie. Quickly I scrammbled up onto a
high perch and stared down a him. '' What are you doing here, how did you find me?!'' I shouted in absolute bewilderment.
"I have my ways.'' he replied calmly '' Don't be afraid I'm not going to hurt you I just want to talk to you, won't you please
come down.''
''No thanks.'' I answered sharply as I clung to my position.'' I can hear you fine from up here.''
Of all the nerve I though as I sat on the tall rock above him, If he thinks that he can just march into my pack's territory
uninvited, then invade into my personal area and like he owns the place and expects me to be all nicey nice and sit down for
a little chit-chat, then he has more rocks in his head than there is in this whole moutain range.
''If you think you can just praide in here uninvited and exspect me to have a heart to heart talk, you've got another thing
coming Machie.'' I growl trying to sound tougher than I really was.
'' I didn't know this area was owned by you,'' he said softly as he inclined his head '' I apologize if I'm tresspassing.
I'll leave if you want me to.'' By the tone of his voice I could tell that he was kind of hurt by the way I had snapped at
him and I could see it in his eyes, feeling a little guilty I slowly climb down off the rock and stood a distance from him.''
No,'' I begin in a low voice ''don't go, I...I'm sorry for bite'n your head off like I did. Especially since I don't know
you very well and you'er probably new around here. I'm real sorry.''
Machie smiled a gentle smile before he spoke further '' That's quiet alright, you were only defending your self and your home.
I had no intentions of frightening you.''
I frowned at him as I put my hands on my hips '' I a'nt scared of anything.'' I say in a proud voice.
Machie just stared at me as he folded his arms across his chest and cocked an eye. "Oh really" he said in a ''yeah right''
kind of way.
I felt my cheeks burn at that last sedement, remembering full well how fast I climbed up the rock behind me like a Ratatta
scared away from it's cheese by an even bigger Raticate.
''Well almost anything.'' I mumble.
Machie chuckled softy as he sat down on a large rock before me and motioned to me to come sit down with him. ''If you will
honor me with a moment of your time I will tell you more about myself.''
''Okay.'' I replied sounding really nervous as I slowly approached him and sit down.
Machie lifted one of his muscular legs and crossed it over the other before he spoke.
''You may not know this but I'm not a member of the Steel Moutain pack, I'm acctually from the Northern Hills.''
''The Northern Hills?'' I repeat in utter astonishment ''that over a hundered miles from here, what would cause you to travel
so far from home.''
Machie drew in a deep breath before he spoke, his face telling me that there were going to be parts in his tale that would
be hard for him to speak of and not all that pleasant for me to hear.
'' It all started five years ago..........''
