I often wondered why nothing serious ever went on between them. My name is Dr. David Q. Dawson and I would like to tell you of an interesting, and important event, that once knocked at Basil of Baker Streets door.

It all started one foggy morning; Basil was playing his violin. It got on my nerves at times but I never told him to stop. Suddenly there was a knock on the door. I rose to answer it but Basil got to the door first. He opened it and a young lady stepped inside. She looked very nervous about something. "Is there anything I can help you with miss?" Basil asked her. She nodded.

"It is extremely important," she said. "I need to make sure that something is kept safe and protected."

Basil shut the door behind her. "And what is that?" He asked.

"These." She held out two test tubes, one with a red liquid and the other with a blue.

"What is so important about them?"

"Well they are..." She looked around for a moment. "This," she held up the blue one, "is an antidote for this. This can turn a person into a mouse and the antidote restores them back."

We both stared at her. This was indeed a great discovery.

"And," she finished, "I don't want these falling into the wrong hands. I don't know many people around here."

"Well you don't have anything to worry about my dear. We will make sure no one else gets it." Basil assured her then he stopped a moment. "I've got another idea. Do you have a place to stay?"

       "No," she answered.

"Well then," he said smiling. "Why don't you stay here for a while?"

       "Really?" She asked brightly.

"Yes, but in exchange for that may we know your name?"

       "Which one?" She answered.

"Which one?" He asked puzzled. "Don't you have just one?"

"No, but to make things simple call me Anne."

"Alright then," Basil answered. "So you're a chemist then?" He asked.

"Some what." She looked around the flat. "Does Mr. Holmes know that you live down here? He'd be very impressed. This place looks very much like his," she said.

Basil seemed struck dumb. "You've been in his flat before?" He asked. This surprised me too, since he was the only one up there.

She looked up at the ceiling and quickly changed the subject.

It was very interesting to see them talk to each other. Mrs. Judson was very surprised that Mr. Basil talked to a girl about science and Anne made it worse by saying theories and ideas.

It started to get late, so Basil showed Anne to her room and came back into the living room where Mrs. Judson started to pester him with questions. Later on everything was quiet until I was awoken by a scream. I went out into the hall to hear noises in Anne's room. I came in to see the window open and Basil rummaging through some things on the floor. Anne was gone.

"Please be here. Please be here..." He got up with the blue test tube in his hand.

       "What happened?" I asked.

"She's been kidnapped and the other is gone. Fortunately they didn't get this one," he said.

"But who took her?" I asked.

"Who else!" He yelled out. He threw a crumpled sheet of paper at my feet. It was a note to one of his henchmen signed by Ratigan.

"But why should he want her for?"

Basil looked at me. "It's clearly obvious. He wants to know the formula for it. We have to find her."

"Is Anne here?" he asked. "She said she'd come to visit and she said she'd stop here."

I didn't want to tell him. "I've very bad news for you. She's been stolen."

He moaned. "Oh no! Not again." This caught Basil's attention.

"What do you mean not again? It seems that there is a lot to know about Anne," he said.

"Fine," the cat replied. "But I want to see what happened to her."

We were about to protest when a screen appeared out of no where.

"I'm a magic cat," he shrugged.

We all drew attention to the screen. We saw a small cell. A hand came out from the bars with a needle and started to pick the lock. And in a few minutes the door opened and out Anne emerged.

       "That's it," Basil said.

"What is she, a criminal? How can she do that?"

"Out of self defense," the cat answered solemnly.

       "From what?" I asked.

"Well the most important fact is that... She is not a mouse. Originally she is human," he replied softly.

"So that's how she knew so much about Mr. Holmes! Keep going," He said eagerly.

"What will happen if she doesn't know the formula for that stuff?" He asked uneasily.

       "He might kill her."

"Why…?" This time Basil was uneasy.

"She didn't create it someone gave it to her!" The cat yelled.

"Then there isn't a moment to lose." Basil got on his coat and hat and told us to hurry up.

Our first stop was the jail. Basil started asking Ratigan's old henchmen who were caught where his hiding place was.

"It's underneath an old store by the river one," told him. So we were off again. We got there and saw an opening. We went in but Basil stopped the cat because there was a little hole in the floor that lead to Ratigan's lair. I peered into it to see Anne running around. She took out a red test tube and smashed it and immediately Ratigan came up to her. We were astounded by her boldness because she started to have an argument with him and was clearly winning it.

"Anne, why did you do that?" He asked trying to stay calm.

"If you ever dare to use my name again I'll call you by..." She paused. "To make your small mind understand by the first of your name. Do you even know what that is?" She retorted.

"Listen!" He started but she didn't let him.

"Listen, listen, listen. I don't like to listen to you. It's tiresome." Basil was enjoying this but he didn't have long to enjoy it because all of a sudden he fell through the hole. I looked behind us to see one of the henchmen.

"Who's next?" He asked smiling. He's smile changed and he ran out frightened by the cat. I looked down and saw Basil wave us away. They told me what happened in our absence so I will tell you just what went on.

"Well look what fell from the sky?" Ratigan stated smiling.

Anne mocked his tone. "Well look what came up from down below?" She said looking at him. Ratigan had had enough of this and it angered him even more to hear Basil laughing.

"Alright, I'm going to ask you both a question. And if you give the wrong answer then I'll make sure the world is rid of its horrible mistakes."

It was Basil's turn now. "Oh so if we answer wrong then you'll disappear?" He said.

Ratigan tried to ignore that. "I'll ask you first Basil. I have always admired your mind and this is the last time I'll ask. Will you join me?"

Basil stared at him coldly. "You know my answer and it will still be the same," he answered him.

"Very well," he answered. "Pity too. Now you." He turned to Anne. "Will you tell me the formula? Don't forget my offer."

"I don't care. I don't want to live in any world with you trying to rule it," she answered.

He was enraged. "Fine then!" He grabbed Basil and Anne by the collar. He tossed them into a cell and slammed the door.

       "Now what?" She asked Basil.

       He didn't answer.

       "Basil? Basil what's wrong?"

"Everything," he replied. "I never thought this would happen. He's finally won!"

This alarmed her. "Basil this isn't your fault. Don't worry we'll get out of this," she said.

"How?" He asked her. "How can we get out? And answer me this why is every one after me?"

Anne bit her lip and thought for a moment. "I'm going to hate this." She took of her small reading glasses and snapped a piece off. He stared at her.

"What are you doing?" He asked puzzled.

"I don't have any more pins," she answered. She pulled at the lock and started to pick at it. "Darn! I can't get at it," she mumbled.

"Let me try," Basil offered. He picked at it but stopped because all of a sudden the police came. At that same moment the cell door opened. I came over to them while the police chased after everyone. Basil helped Anne out but she stumbled and grabbed on to him.

       "Oh sorry," she said quickly.

       "Not at all," he replied.

We got home and she thanked us all for helping. She then said she had to leave. None of us wanted her to leave.

But the very next day who should come back. Anne did. Basil and I were glad to see her and every day she would come back and have very interesting talks with Basil. I was very surprised that they were just friends. I asked Basil about that. He simply would laugh a little and say that was impossible. And what interested me was when he said this…

"We are too much a like so when we talk to each other we some how escape from our problems."
