This reluctant hero of Slayers is an overly-serious chimera (1/3 human, 1/3 golem, and 1/3 demon) who was a normal human being before being magically transformed by Rezo the Red Priest. He is a master of both the sword and Shamanistic Magic.

"Slayers in Dreamland" ~ This is one of my personal favorite "Slayers" fanfictions. It's long but it's worth the time. An excellent Zel/Amelia storyline.
"Hamlet, the manga" ~ Starring Zelgadiss.. as you guessed it... Hamlet. Amelia is Lady Ophelia, and all the rest of the cast is Slayers! It's a really funny comic/doujinshi!
"The Mysterious Priestesses Den of Slayers Silliness" ~ A wonderful and hilarious page featuring just about everything under the sun.. Fabulous fanart and wonderful fanfics. For Zel fans (and slayers fans in general) I recommend Paraika's Story, "Desperado." It's easily the best Z/A story out there, and one of the best characterizations of Zel.

General Zelgadiss talk.
First of all... I know how to spell Zelgadiss, I use this spelling on purpose. It's one of the Japanese spellings, I don't know why I use it instead of Zelgadiss. I just do. That being out of the way.... Here's my big fat paragraph about Zel.
Zelgadiss is without a doubt my favorite anime character... no wait favorite animated character period. Beyond the typical, "He's just so cool" explanation he's an interesting, well developed, multifaceted (not to mention hot!) character who grows a lot throughout the entire series.
When we first meet Zelgadiss he is basically the "cold heartless sorcerer/swordsman" he claims to be, but as soon as the end of the third volume (after the battle with shabruranigdo) he begins to change, granted never throughout the whole series does he become a nice, caring, sensitive, compassionate, etc. guy. But he does get to be a better person, and with the help of the slayers gang (but mostly amelia who clearly cares about him more than any of the others) starts coming to grips with his own humanity (ok that sounds stupid but you know what you mean if you've seen the series) Anyway although Zelgadiss seems to be a very big jerk at first, he does have his good personality points. He's an excellent leader, CAN be incredibly loyal, is very determined and driven (he seems to have one goal in life.. find his cure), and is amazingly protective (especially of Amelia) He's also the source of some of the best jokes in the show..... You will never see anything as funny as Zelgadiss in drag... He's so pretty!

Most Slayers fans don't think of these two as a couple, and granted they never actually hook up in the show. Then again no one does, Slayers isn't a romance anime. There are lots of subtle romantic hints and there are "intended couplings". Couples intended by the creators of the series. These are Zelgadiss and Amelia and Lina and Gourry. It seems that most slayers fans support a Zel/Lina relationship. In my opinion, this would never work out. Their personalities clash so bad, they would blow each other up by the end of their wedding night. Zel and Amelia, on the other hand compliment each other very well. Amelia is just what the doctor ordered for Zel, someone compassionate enough to help heal his wounded heart. Zelgadiss feels betrayal and has trouble trusting, Amelia could fix that. He could trust Amelia. Amelia's been through things like Zel, she's been betrayed by her family on more than one occasion. She witnessed her mother's assassination, and her older sister Gracia, ran away when she was young. Somehow she's pulled through though, and turned all these negative experiences into positive energy. Zelgadiss could really learn from that. Lina is about as emotionally developed as Zel (Lina and Zel are emotional midgets as someone on a mailing list said.) so there relationship wouldn't really go anywhere. I don't see how it could be fulfilling to either of them. It's very clear in the series that Amelia cares deeply about Zelgadiss, and Zelgadiss does care a lot about her, more than he'd care to admit. He's always protecting her, and he blushes a lot around her. He never does these things for or around Lina. Zel and Amelia are also only three to four years apart according to the slayers film books. Zel is eighteen in the first season and Amelia, fifteen. So saying they are too far apart in age is rather ridiculous. There's also that one small event at the very end of Try.. that I won't mention, as it could be considered a spoiler. It's really sweet though. Anyway I think Zel and Amelia will eventually hook up, get married, and rule Sayruun together. I think Zelgadiss realizes his feelings for Amelia, but hides them behind his "emotionless, heartless, sorcerer" facade. I really think Amelia has the ability to see through that facade and into the sweet, shy guy that's hiding underneath. Zelgadiss may wait until he finds his cure (I don't think he thinks he can be with her when he's a chimera, even though Amelia doesn't seem to care at all) but he may not. He may get lonely and run back to her, perhaps finally learning to accept himself the way he is, just like Amelia already has. Either way there's no more episodes of Slayers to be written or seen, so how they hook up... It's up to us fan fiction writers. (:~ Alemeda
