This Fruits Basket character is a young girl whose mother passed away and left her alone. Unable to burden her friends with the trouble of letting her stay at their homes, Tohru decided to live by herself in a tent in the woods. However, when Shigure and Yuki Sohma discover her, they invite her to stay at their house, despite certain family secrets they hide. Cheerful and sweet even though she has a tragic past, Tohru cares deeply for all her friends, and does her best to help them in any way she can.

I lost my home again. It's sad. But...not as sad as other things. Like...not telling mom "Be safe" on the day she died. I said that everyone morning - "Bye, be safe". Except that day. I didn't say it. I had a test. So I stayed up studying almost the whole night. But when it was time for mom to go to work, I didn't wake up. I couldn't tell her "Be safe". And she never came home. I used to think about quitting school, working, and mom told me she didn't finish school. But she always wished that she did. When she said that, that's when I knew why she worked so hard. I want you to do whatever makes you feel is the most comfortable. I don't really like the idea of losing my memory, and I don't really want to forget meeting Yuki...but he's done so much for me without asking anything in return, so I guess... if that's what I have to do... You can erase my memory, but afterwards, promise you'll still be my friend?
