Susan Sto Helit of Soul Music is the daughter of the late Mort and Ysabelle Sto Helit, and comes to a rude awakening one night when she discovers not all her relations are technically dead, when in fact her maternal grandfather is Death himself.

In Discworld: Soul Music, Susan Sto Helit, a young orphan girl, finds herself in quite an unusual situation when she gets a visit from a talking raven and a skeletal rat who tell her that her grandfather, whom she no longer remembers, is actually Death. He's gone missing, so Susan has to take over his duty and collect the souls of the dead, while at the same time trying to locate Death and save a handsome young boy from dying. Luckily she's a strong, no-nonsense kind of girl and has inherited some of Death's powers, such as being able to walk through walls and turn invisible at will.
