This handsome young woman is Rei Asaka, nicknamed Hana no Saint Juste, from the anime series Brother Dear Brother (Oniisama E in the original Japanese.) An intelligent and accomplished young woman, Saint Juste is admired by all of the girls at Seiran Academy for her artistic sensibilities, athletic command of the basketball court, slacker behavior and striking good looks. However, though this androgynous upperclassman may be a high school superstar, she goes home every day to a lonely apartment with no electricity, no running water, and an all but barren refrigerator. The only other tenants of her apartment are an inscrutable array of mirrors and a mysterious doll: the worshiped “cherie la poupee.” While others are deceived by Saint Juste’s devil-may-care attitude, only a few recognize her incredible inner torment, isolation and self-neglectful—even self-destructive—tendencies.

More about Saint Juste:
Saint Juste derives her nickname from Leon de Saint-Juste, the young nobleman responsible for guillotining hundreds during the French Revolution. Although she shares her unearthly beauty and a certain personal dissolution with infamous Angel of Death, the choice of comparison is otherwise puzzling. Who is it that gave her this strange nickname? Why has she no loving family to support her? What is the story behind the elegant golden bracelet on her wrist? And what is the nature of the painful love-hate relationship between her and the deadly Miya-sama?
If Misonoo Nanako is Brother Dear Brother’s protagonist, then Saint Juste is the show’s beloved mascot, and viewers watching the series become as increasingly fascinated with and attracted to Saint Juste as Nanako does.

Saint Juste is the reason I first got into Oniisama E. It may sound superficial, but when I saw an image of her playing the flute in an online article several years ago, I became instantly fascinated with her. I was hesitant to pick up a series just because one of the characters looked hot—moreover, I was hesitant to purchase fansubs over the Internet, which I had never done before—but finally I succumbed. It was gratifying to discover that, not only is the series itself eminently worthwhile, but that Saint Juste is one of the most complex and best-developed female characters I have ever seen on screen. While it is easy to become frustrated with her, my deepest anger is reserved for those who have dealt her such hardship and mistreatment in her life. The lady has a lovely soul.
