A rich girl with a famous lawyer for a father and a former sorority member for a mother, Misaki, of Brother Dear Brother, takes it for granted that she too will be inducted into the Seiran Sorority. When she isn’t even nominated for candidacy the shock is too great, and her hurt quickly turns to rage—rage at Nanako, an “outsider,” for stealing her rightful place, and at Mariko, a pornographer’s daughter, with whom she has always competed and who has dared to take Nanako’s side. Misaki uses her father’s position to dig up dirt on both girls’ families, as well as using her cronies to make Mariko and Nanako’s school lives as uncomfortable as possible. Misaki is self-centered, self-righteous, vindictive and terribly lonely. Though her two friends Furuta and Sonobe adore her, Misaki holds herself aloof and only finds true solace with her dog, Halloween. In many ways, Misaki and her nemesis Mariko are a lot alike. It is chance that pits them against one another, alternating in their roles of victimizer and victim.

Comments:
For the role of villain in a complex series like Brother Dear Brother, it comes to a toss-up between the vindictive Misaki-san and the dangerous Miya-sama. Nearly always, the title falls to Misaki. While Miya-sama gets off on the grounds of her earnest idealism and developed back-story, Misaki comes off as merely vicious and petty. Episode 30 does something to alleviate this, and honestly, the new insight into Misaki’s personality substantially influenced my opinion of her. Yes she is vicious and yes she is petty, but think about the entire thrust of her life up until this point. See what a big impact the fact of the Sorority’s existence has made on all of the students at Seiran. Ask yourself, under such circumstances, isn’t the emergence of someone like Aya Misaki inevitable? Haven’t we all met our own Misakis, time and time again? Yes, I get angry at Misaki and even hate her at times. Nonetheless, she earns my pity. For a dramatic cross-reference to another show, one might compare her to Myrtle Evans from Lilo&Stitch. Funny. They even have similar hair….
