This Fruits Basket character is Tohru's mother. She was killed in a car accident a few months before the anime begins, but she is often seen in flashbacks or memories. Kyoko was a huge influence in Tohru's life, and Tohru often repeats her mother's words of wisdom or carries her mother's photograph with her. When she was alive, Kyoko was independent, willful and had a cheerful, fun personality.
