Considered by many to be the true villain of Final Fantasy VII, Jenova was given many names, among them, "The Calamity of the Skies". Although most information about Jenova is handed down orally and specifics are not known, it is estimated Jenova 'crashed' onto Gaia 2000 years prior to the events in the game, and when she began to damage the planet, the ancients, or Cetra, gave their lives to seal her away. Five years prior to the beginning of the original Final Fantasy VII, Sephiroth discovered his genetic heritage based on the cells of Jenova, and decided to reclaim the planet in her name. In Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, only shards of Jenova remain scattered in the Lifestream, though her head remains intact.
