Edward Elric

Ed is the eldest of the two brothers who are the heroes of Fullmetal Alchemist. He's a child prodigy of an alchemist, but when their mother dies, he over-reaches himself trying to bring her back, and ends up losing an arm and a leg when it goes wrong. Worse, he almost killed his brother Alphonse, saving him only by attaching Al's soul to a nearby suit of armor. Feeling responsible for what happened to his brother, he's determined to bring Al's body back, and to further that end, he reluctantly became a state alchemist.
