When Barrett's hometown of Corel was destroyed by the Shin-Ra, Barrett swore revenge, and restarted the terrorist group AVALANCHE in The Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. In Advent Children, Barrett leaves his daughter Marlene in the care of Tifa and Cloud in Midgar, while he tries and the other survivors of Corel try to find a new energy source.
