Reviews for Tarzan

By JessKat

Tarzan is definitely one of the best movies I've ever seen, animated OR live action. The animation is stunning, the characters are memorable, the music is superb, the art is beautiful, the story is timeless.........What more do you need? There's humor, there's drama, there's suspense, there's romance, there's a little bit of everything. I know that since The Lion King (my other number 1# film of all time) I haven't been this satisfied - or more than satisfied! - when stepping out of the cinema. Tarzan gets 5 stars from me, if it would be possible, I'd give it even more.:)

This is my favorite disney movie ever! And I'm a very hard person to impress. I also enjoyed just looking at the beautiful scenery, or listening to the spirited music. You just want to run out the back door and go run around after watching the movie for the 17th time! It's that kind of movie! The only problem I had with it was the ending. I'm sort of ok with Jane living in the jungle, but I just want Mr. Porter to be more willing to let his daughter live her life like in the little mermaid. It seemed more romantic that way.

Disney's animated film Tarzan is fair, for a disney movie. Cute sidekicks, memorable songs, man running around half naked in a loin cloth, what more could you want? How about a shred of making me believe that Disney's Tarzan is anywhere NEAR the original Tarzan? The original book by Burroughs has been torn to shreds by hundreds of media styles, changing the original story. Yes, the story is almost a 100 years old and its dated. But no media has destroyed the essense of Tarzan as much as the animated film has.

To be fair, though, the film is not blood curdling bad. I liked the artist's depiction of Tarzan's physique and character, and although the animation is once again stylized, its not horrible like in Atlantis.

So in short, this film is not bad, nor is it great. But as a depiction of Edgar R. Burrough's most famous book, it bites big time.
