I thought watching Little Mermaid 2 would be enough to make me stay away from Disney sequels, but I decided to give Lady and the Tramp 2 a chance. This one is about Tramp's only son, Scamp, and how he's tired of living with so many rules. After seeing the junkyard dogs get the best of the dog catcher, he decides he wants to become one of them. Scamp also meets Angel, who hangs out with the junkyard dogs, but dreams of having a family of her own.
Storywise you can see where this movie is going, but at least it's not so mind-numbingly similar to the original. For a video release, the animation isn't too bad and the bit of computer animation they added fits well. As for the characters, both Scamp and Angel are very cute leads and you actually do care for what happens to them. The best scene between them is a parody from the original spaghetti scene. Even the songs weren't so bad they had me lunging for the fast-forward button.
But all this doesn't add up to anything fresh or original and Disney really needs to pace themselves with these video
sequels. Is it worth seeing? I found it to be enjoying for the characters and not much else. I'm sure kids will enjoy it
but being a little older, one viewing was enough for me.
This film was okay-ish. Nothing like the original, so don't get your hopes up if you're a fan of the first movie. The animation was okay but not great. The humans were animated the best, which is not really a good thing when the whole film is supposed to be about the dogs. There were too many songs and they all made me want to fast-forward. I hated the way they changed Tramp's character from a charming, street-smart dog into a strict wussy wimp who did nothing but yapped on about the importance of rules. Scamp's looks were too much like a copy of his dad, the original Scamp was more chubbier and cute, this one was more like a mini-teenager with an identity crisis. Was there anything good about this film? Sure, Angel was cool. I liked her voice and her looks. She was the best part of the whole film. Some scenes were funny, like the new spaghetti dinner scene. Most were just too childish or predictable.
Overall, it was an okay sequel. But that's what makes this film not-so-great: all of it was just "okay".
