Note:
I'm talking about the OLD Johnny Bravo episodes here, not the new crappy ones
that started when Cartoon Network bought the rights from Bravo's creators and
messed up the show, including all the characters.
Johnny Bravo is an Elvis-wannabe, a self-centered macho who adores himself and
is always out hunting for girls. All the women he meets hate him and he always
ends up being beaten by them or sprayed with pepper-spray.
The older Johnny episodes are mostly simply hilarious and the ones that aren't, are easily replaced with those that are. The best ones ever in my opinion are the "Johnny Meets the Amazon Women" (or something like that), "Johnny Bravo Meets Adam West" (the man who played Batman in the old 60's series!) and "Johnny Bravo Meets Scooby-Doo". The last two are, of course, parodies of old TV shows.
The Adam West episode is a blast,
making fun of all the old cliches from the Batman show. West has to find Johnny's
mother who's gone missing and he follows a bunch of random, irrational clues
that make no sense. The Scooby-Doo episode introduces Johnny to the old Scooby
gang and again makes fun of the show's cliches, such as the infamous "splitting
up", the corny chase scenes, the unmasking of the villain and Johnny's
having the hots for Daphne.
The Amazon Women episode was one of the two first pilots ever, and while the
animatino looks quite different from the later episodes, the humor is more adult
than in many of the later episodes. Like the scene where one of the Amazon women
calls out for her warrior mates in a Tarzan-like yell, Johnny says: "Woah,
now THAT'S a mating call!"
The old show was great and I suggest to look for the older episodes, as opposed to the newer ones where Johnny hardly ever even chases women anymore. He is portrayed as just plain stupid and he gets into boring "adventures". The character designs are off by a mile too.
