Okay, lemme just say that this movie ROCKED! The music was really good and
the animation was so smooth and well done. I especailly liked the sequence of
the "FireBird Suite." Gawd, I loved all the sequences! When this movie comes
out, I'm gonna ZOOM right to the store, buy it, and watch it again and again,
and again and again......((I highly reccomend it to Music/art/animation lovers))
Disney's Fantasia 2000 is, like the first Fantasia, a journey into the world of classical music combined with great animation. Even people who usually don't enjoy classical music can surely enjoy at least some of the segments.
There are many abstract, funny and inspiring new sequences in the film, including one old classic from the original Fantasia, "The Sorcerer's Apprentice", starring the big mouse himself.
The best part in the whole film for me was undoubtedly the last sequence, Igor Stravinsky's "The Firebird Suite". It's a mystical tale of life, death and rebirth told in a beautiful way. A magical Sprite of the forest awakens nature with the help of a mystical Elk. In the process the Sprite manages to awake the evil Firebird, who lives inside a crater. The Firebird gets angry and destroys all the beauty that has just been brought to life. All that is left is ash. The Sprite mourns for the destroyed land and feels like giving up, but the Elk convinces her to try again. In the end, she brings life to everything once more; the trees, the flowers, the grass, the land, and even the dark crater.
The other sequences were wonderful as well. The animation is superb as can be expected of Disney, both computer and traditional animation alike. Each segment tells a different story and they work well together. The only bad or annoying parts that one might consider are the facts that there are multiple famous celebrities hosting Fantasia 2000 inbetween the stories instead of only one in the original Fantasia. And if you totally despise classical music, this might not be a film for you either because, well, that's basically what this film's all about.
Overall, I rate this film 5 stars. If I could, I'd give it even more!

The only thoughtful movie Disney's done in a decade. Not being the product of
commercialism or formula, Fantasia 2000 is a practical animated movie and a
celebration of animation as an artform. The animation ranges from full blown
computer generated sequences to simple yet elegant traditional animation. While
none of the segments in this movie are put together as effectively as in the
original and nothing here could ever match the power of the Night on Bald Mountain
segment or the grace of the Ave Maria segment, you could tell the animators
wanted to come close enough. Here, the segments range from funny and endearing
to oddly moving. The Firebird segment, a powerful and wonderful tale of death
and rebirth, is a worthy alternative to Night on Bald Mountain. It seems inspired
by Princess Mononoke, but it was crafted with such unbelievable and beautiful
animation that only Disney knows how to do.
