The original Fantasia is an excellent and amazing film. The animation is fantastic (as can be expected of Disney) and well-fit with the music.
My personal absolute favorite scene is "Night At Bald Mountain"; some of the things in it are definitely not meant for young children (warning: spoilers ahead!), for example the rising of the ghosts in the cemetary, the skeletons and demons, the dancing naked women, overall the threatening mood and feeling of the scene and of course, the black devil himself.
Many other scenes are memorable as well, like the ever-famous sequence "The Wizard's Apprentice" starring Mickey Mouse, the scene with flying pegasuses (sp?) and centaurs, "The Rite Of Spring", a musical piece about life on Earth when dinosaurs ruled, and others.
I can understand why the film was ahead of its time, almost nobody liked it
when it first came out. Only after Walt's death people started appreciating
it more. Most were expecting Disney to create something funny and lively, like
Snow-White, not the abstract and artistic Fantasia. No less, this film was a
great experience, I'm sure Fantasia 2000 will please me just as much if not
more.
