One thing is for certain--this is not a movie to watch if you want deep, involved plots or grade A animation. In truth, the animation seems to have been done by the same people who animated the "Animaniacs" cartoons. It's not BAD, but it's not "The Lion King" either.
As for the plot... well... it's predictable in every sense of the word. Every song, character, and line can be fortold with absurd accuracy several scenes beforehand. It's impossible to include spoilers in a review like this because the story is so obvious the moment you start watching it. Furthermore, it's based on a true story.
So why am I giving it 4 stars? Well, that's very easy. It's a good movie. It's cute (though occasionally disgustingly so, especially with the addition of the steriotypical "cute orphan girl" character), and it's loads of fun to try to guess what's going to happen next--especially if you do so with a group of friends. Plus, Buster and Chauncey (two mice who supposedly wrote the song "Silent Night") introduce a drop or two of deeper plot. The religious aspect can be overlooked. And personally, I think Chauncey is destined to go down in history as one of the more popular animated characters... if only more people had ever heard of the movie!
Summary: Dispite sometimes annoying predictability, the animation and songs
aren't bad, the plot itself is pretty good, and Chauncey makes the movie!
