Reviews for The Aristocats

By Mario

I can just see the glares and hear the talk right now. "What? Are you nuts? The Aristocats is Disney's worst movie ever." Um, no. Actually, it's not. While it's true this movie doesn't measure up to the likes of much of modern Disney or their classics, out of all the average movies Disney ever made, The Aristocats is, hands down the most fun and most charming. Seriously, I don't know why people say the 70s was a disaster for Disney. Every single movie that came from that decade, while not animated to any great extent, was crafted with a sense of fun and spunk. When I was a kid, I couldn't think of any other Disney movie that was funnier and more watchable than The Aristocats. True, the villain was weak, and the story moved at a leisurely pace. But with near perfect voice work, outrageous, charming, and often hilarious characters, and one jamming song, did the average kid really care? With no hideous pop songs, no dumb sidekicks, and no bathroom humor, The Aristocats is a perfect Disney movie for the younger kids, one that doesn't delve into the formulaic or the saccharine, one that is more suited to the family than much of the stuff modern Disney cooked up. More serious Disney buffs may want to watch something else, however.
